advice needed - family situation

Hi all, need some advice with a complex familiy situation. When submitting my father's info for DV2007 in December, I made the mistake of choosing "not married/divorced" option even though he was, and still is, married. The actual marriage was short lived and there were divorce papers filed some time in December (prior to me entering my dad's info for DV2007). There is good chance that the divorce will take place before a potential interview although his number is pretty low, EU # in 2000s. As I see it I have two options:

1.) Fill out forms in first letter as divorced, hope divorce takes place prior to interview. Catch is that during the interview they will want to see certificate of marital status, on which are the dates of marriage/divorce in which case they may disqualify him on grounds that wrong information was provided in DV entry.

2.) Fill out forms in first letter as married, attach explanation of the situation, as well as docs confirming that divorce was filed for prior to DV entry and hope that they won't disqualify him on same grounds as above.

Option 1 probably gives him better chance but there are two unknowns (whether divorce proceedings will end by then and whether the interviewer will take notice of marriage/divorce dates and inquire as to why he filed as divorced). I'm leaning toward option 2.

What do you guys think? Any other ways out of this situation? Any help is highly appreciated..

thank you!
