Advance Parole Usage Question

I am on a Pending I-485 for the past 5 years in this country. It doesn't look like my application is going to be approved any where in the near future, at least in the next couple of years. The only way for me to travel abroad is using an AP.

However, I see the rules on AP being very strict. According to USCIS 131 Instruction document, you are not allowed to travel outside of the country unless there is an emergency situation or in public interest or such. Here is an excerpt:

"If you are in the United States and seek an Advance Parole Document, you may apply if:

You have a pending application to adjust status, Form I-485, and you seek to travel abroad for "urgent humanitarian reasons" or in furtherance of a "significant public interest" which may include a personal or family emergency or bona fide business reasons."

Now, my question is, does this mean that if my sister gets married in India, I cannot, by rule, go to India to be part of the wedding? Does this mean I can't take a one week vacation to another country and come back?

You can. As long as you are I-485 pending, you can get advance parole, for any reason or no reason at all.

So, the content about the travel restrictions in the I-485 Instructions document is not valid?

The I-485 instructions are valid. But the restrictions in the I-131 instructions are not relevant to I-485 applicants, with regards to the "urgent reasons" requirement.
