Advance Parole related...

Hi All,

My I-485 is pending and I will be going for a month long vacation to India. I will be re-entering the U.S. based on my Advance Parole.

These are some of my questions, could you please let me know the answer to them?

1. What documents must I carry with me other than my passport and Advance Parole?

2. I have 3 copies of the Advance Parole, how many copies will be taken by the Immigration Officer at the port of entry?

3. Does the Immigration Officer stamp on the Advance Parole and give it back to me?

Thanks a million,
Priya

I heard from a friend that the officer keeps one copy with him and stamps on one and give to us, so we will be left with one copy only. That friend suggested to give only 1 copy to the officer and dont show the others, so that we will still have 2 copies with us.
Anyway, this is just what I heard, act according to what your attorney says.
Goodluck. Appreciate if you post other details, its nice to know.

Ap

I went to India on AP in Nov last year. You have to show just one copy of AP at the PoE. For AP holders, they do a secondary inspection and take you to another room. Usually this is a waiting room where you see other AP holders too. While you wait the immigration officer verifies your papers (Passport and AP). After verification, they give back your stamped PP and AP. So you get to keep all the docs and they don't take any.

As regards the other docs. it is advisable to carry all other docs. that you normally would while entering on H1B like employment letter, recent paystubs, etc. Also carry your EAD.

The whole process doesn't take too long. For me, I had to wait for about 5 mins for the secondary inspection.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your vacation.

No. For first time officer is supposed to take a copy of AP. Officer will stamp on another copy and return it to alien. That stamped copy is good for any future entries.

So the stamped copy can be used any number of times for future travels outside the country, until it expires?
Thanks for some clarification.

Didn't take any copy....

For me, they just stamped the one copy I gave them and they returned it to me. This was at Newark, NJ. Also they stamp it for 6 months validity and this may turn out to be less than the original expiry date.
