baby_mde,

I have travelled on APs and each time I took one original along with a copy. I have never had to give up the original at the Port of entry. My lawyer has always advised me to take one original and one photocopy. They have also instructed me to never give up the original at the port of entry. In case the officer asks for a copy you can handover the photocopy to him/her. Please note that I have never travelled on the same AP more than once. Each time I left the country I had a brand new AP.

regards,

saras

i got only two original copies of AP----
for whatever reason the officer at the port of entry kept the second copy (original) with him.....i did not argue with him....since i do have one of them with me...

i have heard people have travelled multiple times using the same AP

yes two originals....i dont remember any mention of 1st or 2nd copy anywhere...

Just last month when i came back from India, the officer asked me if i had all the copies of the AP and i said no. He gave me hard time by asking wierd questions like "Are you trying to run a scam" etc. etc. I told him politely that this is not the first time i am travelling with AP and no one ever asked me about the other copies of AP.

Anyway he told me that i can enter the US but he also told me that next time you should carry all the APs with you when you want to come in.

I would like UN and other people to shed some light on this one.

Hope this leads to some clarification.

puerthoughts,

Your situation sounds like an exception rather than the rule. I have travelled several times on an AP (4 different times arriving at different airports) and have never been asked for additional copies. Infact I have never been asked for anything other than the one original AP doc. Each time the officers have stamped the AP doc and returned it to me. I have never given up any Ap document at the POE and no one has asked me any questions.

The fact that he let you in and only gave you a hard time proves that he was just trying to show his authority. If there was a genuine problem and he knew that you were not following the procedure he would have taken it further and you would not have been allowed in. We have to remember that these immigration officers have their own opinions and personalities. Just because they are immigration officers does not mean that they will treat everyone properly (although a majority of them do treat people nicely). Nothing stops immigration officers from giving people a hard time but they know that they can only take it to a certain level. They would really get in your face and detain you if something was truly wrong.

I agree with you. The only thing that took me by surprise is that he told me that "You were told when you were give these papers that you have to show all of them at once." I think he may be suggesting that immigration people want to see if you took all the travel documents with you when you went there or someone from here sent you the document via mail.

I also answered him that the reason why i did not have them with me is to keep other copies in safe place.

I just wanted to throw this incident out there in the public so other people can also report if they are seeing more of such cases.

On a personal note: What is your PD ?? It tells in the signature that it is 2001. What is the month ?

Unfortunately, my PD is Aug '01. Technically only 3 months away from the current date but light years away in reality :)

cheers,
