Hi Folks

How tough is it to get in to USA on an Advanced Parole instaed of H1 visa??? (especially after hearing that people are detained for questioning anywhere from 2 hrs to 10 hrs at airports)

I mean can any one of you people give me details what will happen (airport scene) if we come back on AP.
(what questions will be asked etc)

Thank You in advance

I entered on AP last Week. No Questions asked AT ALL. It is a routine though that the immigration officer after entering the information in computer writes APR(Approved), puts your docs in a red folder and sends you in a room where they need to take a photocopy of your AP and put a stamp on both. As simple as that.

It might differ from Airport to airport like in NY things might be lengthy because of more number of travellers.

Piece of cake

I used my AP to enter US with family in Sept 03. The process was easy and took less than 5 minutes. Just remember to carry all original copies and carry some additional photocopies.

Hope this helps.
Oops

Can anybody tell me

1) The list of documents to be carried and
2) How many original copies of AP to be carried.
3) Why do we have three copies of AP?

Thanks in advance..

The 3 copies for AP are because:

one copy is for yourself
second copy is for the airlines when you leave this country so that they can allow you to fly without any visa
Third one is for the immigration officer when you come back

If you have multiple entry for AP, then you can use your copy any number of times after the first travel. Otherwise you have to apply for a new one.

Are u sure that the airline took one of your AP? The airline is not supposed to get any documents from you?
Please clarify. AFAIK, the 3 documents are for you to use it thrice.

According to me this is wrong information being provided. You do not need to give any copy of your AP to anyone. Airlines takes only the remainder of I-94 attached. Even immigration officer does not take your copy, he/she just makes a photocopy instantly.

The views about the 3 AP documents are not my own. I read them somewhere in these forums

I have an RFE in I-140 and I (my attorney) still didn't get the RFE after 13 days. I still did NOT apply for I-485/EAD/AP

I am sorry if I have provided the wrong information about the 3 AP documents

Explorer19 is correct.

I can prove it (check this out):

http://www.immihelp.com/gc/aos/ap.html

Some airlines, again I don't remember too somewhere Malaysia side won't let you board the plane if you don't give them a copy of AP (In case your visa is expired).

Also Immigration officer can ask to retain a copy, one of my friend didn't have a copy in Atlanta so officer accepted a photocopy.

Great Information

Thanks Prem...
This should clear all doubts about 3 copies of AP....Rarely documents of USCIS are so clear as is this document. Great Link provided by you...

I have never heard about a copy need to be submitted to Airlines. But in any case i'll confirm with my friends who came back last week

My AP Experience

Some people receive two others three copies of AP- I had recd two. The copies were identical. At entry time I was just carrying only one. The immigration official asked me for the other- I told him I am not carrying it- he said it is OK. I had the other copy in the luggage- so I pulled it out later and went back and gave it him- he retained it- but he didn't particularly care.

Usually Airlines don't ask for AP's just I-94, in case they do ask for the AP, they are satisfied with a copy. ALWAYS ALWAYS carry multiple copies of your AP when you travel. If you want to be safer, ask your Lawyer to mark and sign them as verified against original or get the Notarized.

The number of AP's that they hand out is also not uniform, sometimes it is two, sometimes three. But as long as it is multiple entry it doesn't matter.

When you enter the country, hand over the entire AP bundle, you received from your lawyer, at secondary inspection. If the officer is so inclined he can keep one original and give the others back to you after stamping one of them. Or give all copies back to you. Again it is immaterial if the officer keeps a copy or returns it to you.

Oh and travelling on AP is extremely easy! Took me less than 5 mins the last time I entered at SFO

Hi All
Thanks for ur inputs
But what I have heard is that people are detained for atleast 2 to 10 hrs. Then why this long detention?
Does it take everybody only 5 mins to complete the AP process at airports?

Please input ur valuable comments

Obviously it depends on certain situations like if you belong to the terrorist designate countries or happen to look like, or have your name sound like someone on their do not enter list. But this is the FIRST I am hearing of people taking 10 Hours to complete secondary inspection.

READ through all the posts in THIS thread, and you will see atleast 4 people with great experiences with AP. If you search the forums, you will find numerous more such cases.

The 5 min number that is bandied about might be +- 10-15 mins, but the essence is that the process is painless and FAST! So don't start panicking in case you don't get your approval within 5 mins of document submission.

Good luck!

Hi
I know of a Guy from Hyderabad India (Hindu) who was questioned for 10 hrs at newark intl airport (I know this bcoz he is from my company and also I don't know why it took so long)

What I meant by 5 mins is that "is the process quicker???"

My wife recently travelled with AP. It was easy. The officer only ask for passport, AP and EAD. Have EAD with you is important.

The guy was asking about entering US and airlines ask for I-94
while you leave US.
According what I know every airlines flying into US check your
visa before they let you board the flight. If you are travelling on
AP sometimes they keep copy of it.And according to some posts at
the Port of Entry immigration offices didn't even bother to do the
secondary check or whatever it is called.I am talking about recent
posts within in the last 3 to 4 months.

Thanks
