Guys,here's my situation:
i'm a green card holder (citizenship is in the process), my hunsband is a USC.
not having a child of my own,i have a legal custody of my nephew who lives with me (11 years old) he came in almost 3 years ago and overstayed his visitor visa.for the record, my nephew has been living with me since he was born when i was back home.my sister and her hunsband both gave me legal custody and the kid is now in 6th grade.
coming from a muslim country adoption is almost impossible that's why all i could get was legal custody.

My qusetion to you gurus , is there any way to get the kid a legal status inhere.i sopke to 2 lawyers, they both gave me differents opinions (one said it was easy to do, the other said it's impossible unless you hhave adoption paper instead of custody) which one should i believe???
i'm really strugeling, thanks for your help guys.
a desesperate mother.

Even if your home-country doesn't know adoption, you might be able to adopt the kid through the courts here in the US. Many people adopt kids from overseas that they are not related with, it might be an option for you. Talk to an attorney familiar with adoption law and process.
