At the consular interview, the officer was so courteous and congratulated me. He said that he will wait for the end of my two years of home residency of J1 and then issue the visa. He asked me to mail the passports after five weeks and I will get the visa as I do not have any problems.
I abandoned my job and after I sent the passports, the embassy emailed me that my case is pending under administrative processing.
What should I do? I am now without a job or income and no time limit for my visa. What should I do besides waiting?

im so sorry ,tar. when did u have ur intervew? my case is under same condition, i had my interview on jan 2007 and still waiting. i dont know what to do if u know plz let me know. thanks.

I had it on March 2009. The time frame is unpredicted. I can take any time between 4 weeks and 2 years. Most cases get finally approved. I know some one who get it after 25 days, another in 2 months, another in 7 months, another in 2 years, and another one did not get it (after waiting for 2 years, the embassy advised him of re-applying for a new visa)

I think they are afraid of giving visas to moslem countries, Russia, Cuba, and China.
