I am a 26 year old Indian citizen and a former US F-1 visa holder currently residing in Canada for further studies on a student visa. I have been invited to visit some friends in the United States for a long weekend and am preparing my paperwork for the visitor visa interview at the US Consulate in Toronto.

The paperwork I am preparing is as follows :

* Completed DS-156 form + photograph
* Completed DS-157 form
* Current passport + 2 previous passports
* Original STUDENT PERMIT and STUDENT VISA for Canada
* Letter from my college in Canada confirming I am currently enrolled as full-time student with full tuition paid
* Letter of invitation from my friends in the United States
* Letter from my family business in India confirming that I am a director and owning 33% of the business
* Notarised copy of Maharashtra State certificate of incorporation for company (in English)
* Copy of Notification from Maharashtra State registrar of companies that I am director of said company (in English)
* Letters of agency appointment from international partners to show the legitimacy of the company
* Letter from my former US college confirming I maintained F-1 status throughout my stay in the US
* Official transcripts from my former US college in original
* Copies of professional certifications from international bodies in my field of business
* Bank statements for last 5 months from US and Canada banks showing sufficient funds in my personal name (approx. US$12,000 balance maintained between accounts)
* Notarised translation of Maharashtra State ration card showing my residence in Mumbai (translated from Marathi to English)
* Notarised copy of Maharashtra State voter registration showing my permanent residence in Mumbai (translated from Marathi to English)
* Letter from Indian consulate in Toronto confirming authenticity of Indian documents
* Original air ticket to enter and exit the United States with confirmed dates

I have travelled extensively around the world and currently hold valid multiple entry visitor/business visas for UK, Canada, Schengen, New Zealand and Singapore. I have entered the USA on 40+ previous occasions for business, tourism and studies. I am also an unmarried only child with both parents resident in India and I am expected to take over the family business from my father. We have no relatives at all in the United States.

Do you think that I have sufficient documentation to show ties to India/Canada to enable the officer to issue a visa? Can anyone suggest any other documents that I may require?

This is a general advice and not necesaarily directed to you. I have seen so many people concentrate only on the documents, while they forget about the fact that they have to face the interview, and that need more time and preparation. Think of it this way, can you get a job simply on your degrees and experince letters? Along with those, you have to prepare and do well in the job interview. Same is the case in visa interview. Although paperwork is required, but in the final analysis it is the person who has to answer the questions and come up with satisfactory answers.

So my advice would be please take your time in preparing for your interview and make sure you aware of things like status and immigrant intent etc, and what to expect in the interview.

I'm pretty well versed in the regulations surrounding US Visas and status, so I'm not particularly concerned about that aspect. I can easily explain why I should qualify for a B-1/B-2 and the conditions attached to said status.

As far as immigrant intent is concerned, I studied in the US for 7 years and still chose to leave. I think that establishes pretty clearly that I have very little immigrant intent. I can also establish what I believe are strong ties to both Canada (through my current college enrollment) and to India (where I have my business and family).

Furthermore, I travel very extensively internationally (~30 trips per year) and have never had any overstay or enforcement issues in any other country.

The main point of my question was to check if Toronto consulate had any specific requirements that they don't list (eg. some of the India consulates require to see parent's original birth certificates even if you are an adult and they are deceased). I don't want to get a 221(g) refusal for lack of paperwork and then have to scramble to get everything in order subsequently.
