Address, Name Change and filing I-90

Hi,

I sent to file the I-90 online today, and with the info i was researching in regards to this, found out i was supposed to have filed change of address within 10 days. My current resident alien card expires in Feb 08, so 10 years ago would be last time i would of updated the address. Since then we have moved 2 x's. I talked to an atty, and then a friend who used to work in immigration, and they said to just file the AR-11 (which i can do online) with current address and then for previous address, just put the last address that was used for current resident alien card, bypassing the actual previous address, since it might cause some confusion. Also on this AR-11 it asks for last port and date of entry. We have been to Canada a few times in the summer, but they do not stamp anything, do i put that down? or last red stamp in my passport (which was from mexico in July)?

My current alien card has my maiden name, but in applying for the I-90, i would want to use my married name i would guess. In applying for the I-90, it's because current card will expire, but there is also a box to mark for changing a name, and you can only mark 1 box. How can i do the I-90 application and name change at the same time?

Thanks so much

Do you mean there is no stamp in your passport by crossing the US-Canada border? Is there any stamp from Canada side at the time of you entry into the Canada? Did the US border officer see your passport or you did not show your passport at all (except for your PR card only) at the time of reentry?

no, they don't stamp, never have, going both ways. interesting side note is that when we returned to the U.S. last time, the border guard said that she does not even need to show them her passport, just the green card, the Canadian side thought wants to see a passport. we filed the address change yesterday online and put that trip down as last time coming into the U.S.

Are you saying the passport is not necessary for the LPR by reentry into US from Canada? You can select either 2.e or f of the form and provide a court ordered name change as one of your supporting documents. The new card will have a new expiration date. Did you ever see the border officer swipe your PR card?

that's what the border agent said.

would not a social security card, driver's license, and copy of our marriage certificate suffice maybe? how do you get a court ordered name change? Everything in the last 12 years is in the married name, except for her Costa Rican passport and her green card.

I have never seen the card swiped, but then again i have not been looking, usually they just look at it and give it back with the other passports.

Thanks

I do not know other than the court ordered name change as the evidence. You may try it, though. Next time you may try not to show your Passport but PR card only by crossing the border, by the way.
