Address Change for the Plastic card

My GC was approved on Nov 27, 2001. Stamping done in Detroit, MI on Dec 10, 2001.
I am planning to go to India for company work for six months. I will not have US address during that period.
Can I use my friend\'s home address for GC mailing? Please post pros and cons.
