Address Change after filing I-485

I filed I-485 in Dec 2001 and I have received AP, but
haven\'t received FP, EAD yet.
I need to change address (within CA) now.
What impact will be on my I-485 approval ?
Can I call INS to make sure my address is changed ?
Any experience and information is greatly appreciated !

It is a sticky issue

If you want to change address, you can do it, INS has a address change form which you can fill in an give to INS. try to do it in person and call IIO after a few days to verify if the change has gone into the system.

I have seen many cases in which even address changes were done INS still does not update their records and EAd etc are sent to old address.

The caveat is if you can avoid an address change it is the best way else try you level best to get into the INS system.

spe is right on the mark with this

From personal experience, I filed change od address with CSC on 12.17.01 (faxed to CSC). i filed my 485 in July 2001.
I checked a week later with IIO, who confirmed that the address change has been done on their systems.
However, in January I got EAD and my wife\'s FP notice at the old address. That is not to say that INS always messes up. There are many instances where CSC has correctly forwarded the mail. But there is always a chance of screwup.
If you absolutely have to do the address change, it is preferrable to have someone you know stay at the old place (or make friends with them), so he/she can forward your mail to you.

According to my attorney...

"...INS is notoriously unreliable on their change of address processing. However, the main problem related to that is typically associated with EAD and AP applications and fingerprinting. Since both of yours are approved and you\'ve been printed, shouldn\'t be a problem if you move. INS sends our firm the original I-485 approval notice in any event, and you will receive only the courtesy copy. When you do move, please let me know and we\'ll notify INS. At the time that you go to the local office for passport stamping, you should have an additional opportunity to check your records and ensure that the address is correct..."
