Address Change after 485 applied

How big a problem/delay if one changes address after 485 is filed. Someone told that it can be 6-7 months delay if you change the address. If that is true. I think I should give some friend's address or so.

... and that of course, would be illegal

I think you can legally give friend's address as C/o ..
But I do not prefer to introduce a level of indirection which might cause delay in receiving any RFE/mails etc.

I recently moved. Called the national service center (800) 375-5283 and reported my new address in addition to filing AR-11 forms for all members of my family. After about a month or so I received confirmation from USCIS that the address change has been applied to our pending I-485 applications.

In short, there is no hassle and according to me is the right way to do it. I do not agree that address change causes further delays to I-485 processing.

Hope this helps.

I changed my address too after applying for 485 by filing AR-11 myself. Though I did not get any confirmation from USCIS, I am sure that my address has been updated since I got my 2FP notice a couple of weeks ago to my new address.

BTW, I also had applied for my 2nd EAD and 2nd AP with my updated address and these to were delivered to my new address without any issues.

I have seen couple of instances where address change has brought good news to my freinds. (There 485's were approved).

Hang in there, it could bring the same for you.

Good luck.

We (me and my wife) too changed our address after I-485 is applied. We sent AR-11 forms along with the 485 receipts and got a confirmation from BCIS for myself. But, my wife didn't get the confirmation and she called the 800 number to notify the change.

What if address change is from one Service center jurisdiction to another? Does it necessarily trigger transfer of the case? In consulting world, Addrees changes are atleast a semi-annual event, if not quarterly.....
