AC21 Portability and job change

I am on L1-A Visa now, I-140 approved and my I-485 has been pending from past 18 months in TSC. I have renewed my EAD recently for 2nd time.
My employer wants me to go back to India shortly and continue working in India, but I dont want to go back as I will loose my GC.

I plan to change the job now in USA based on AC21 portablity and have few questions:

1. Can I quit the job and start looking for other permanent job ?
If I quit the job, will I be out of status ?
2. My company applied for me directly for I-140 based on L1-A
in managerial capacity ( Project Manager ).
Can I switch jobs now as software engineer or
different designation. My work profile may change.
3. Should the new employment letter be as Project Manager or
can it be as Test Engineer. The job duties will change but the
salary will be almost same.
4. Can I take contract position jobs which will be for 6-9 months ?

1. You will be in status as long as 485 is still pending- you don't have to be doing a job.
2. The new job should be similar- PM perhaps is not similar to developer etc
3. EAD lets you do any kind of job. But for GC you require a fulltime/permanet/similar job. The popular definition of FT job - is no 1099 no time limit.
4. Going to India will not stop your GC- as long as your employer shows that he wants to hire you here after GC.
