Guys, I am not a good researcher, but I found that the 4 year provision is in the Senate Bill being considered now. I don't know if the amendment want was talking about was approved or that the bill I saw is old version....See for yourself and make sense of it...

Here you will access the section: Sec. 643. Strengtheinging Amirca:
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/F?c110:1:./temp/~c110BxMkU8:e762909:

Here you will find the whole bill....
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c110:S.1348:

In some situations, the system won't let you open the link; if that is the case,

then this how to do your own research: go to:http://thomas.loc.gov from there search for S. 1348

If this bill happens the one that Senate consider last year, then please accept my apology in advance;

Faysal,

According to my resources, the bill does include the 4 year provision, however, house's bill includes it ONLY if english is also the official language. Senator Alexanders's ammendment combines both into the bill. So if this bill goes to the house, probability is that 4 year will be taken out unless the ammendment was there to include english as official language.

Want: Nobody is against the 4 year provision. and the bill that went to through the changes is the one in the senate. The house bill contains the 4 year. Also remember, once the house passes this legistation and the senate passes the same bill, the two versions must be reconciled; I don't think noone would try to take that provision out. Remember, they made the test for citizenship harder; therefore, it makes sense for them to ease the 5 year...

No actually you are wrong. House reps want to make English as an offiical language, what it would mean is that only English would be used everywhere..hospitals, police stations etc. No translator or signs in other language will be displayed(including airports). Right now if you are in DFW airport in dallas, signs are mostly in spanish.

this issue is more serious than you think. Hidden laws in the house's version(which includes 4 year citizenship) will make things such as taking a translator to courts, dmv offices etc unlawful. Thats why they want to give U.S Citizenship after 4 years so people can learn english faster...

Nothing happens in this country unless you give up something.

Want: You are kind of turning me upside down. When the immigration compromise deal was reached by the bipartisan group, and they made the text available, we read the text and we could not find the 4 year provision. You started a new tread informing us that senator Alexander Introduced an amendment which includes the 4 year provision. You further stated that the amendment will be voted on the 4th June. Because the debate was raging in Congress, I was under the impression that the amendment was introduced in the Senate and that Alexander was a Senator. I made some research on the amendment; I found that a Senator by the name Alexander introduced four amendments. However, I was not able to find the amendment that contained the 4 year provision. I was able, though, to find the whole text of bill by the Senate, and I found that the 4 year provision was there. And that is exactly what I reported. If you are aware of that the 4 year provision includes the new deal that is all I wanted to know.

I have no idea what is going on in the house. I know there is an immigration bill introduced in the house, and set to be debated sometime in July. I don’t know if the 4 provision includes the bill introduced in the house.
