About and after interview

Hello everyone,

Novice to the forum with some questions

I applied for the greencard through marriage this April, did the fingerprint in June and now got a notice for interview in Mid October. I wonder how long it usually takes to get the greencard after the interview.

Also, I found at some website that at the end of the interview for I-485 , the officer will place a temporary "green card" stamp(I-551) in the applicant's passport. Is it true in my situation? I'm planning on going back to my country End of Nov. so I'm a little concerned about my traveling status.

Any thoughts, advice or experience shared here would be really appreciated :)

Flamingo,
That is not a problem at all....you can travel on the I551 (temporary GC) & you'll've GC status. That stamp is evidence that u r approved & are waiting to receive the plastic GC card.

Flamingo, where did you file for AOS? I have filed in March 03 still no news for interview. I am in Calif.

Flamingo,

if you need to travel outside the United States for any reason before your I485 is approved you need to get an Advance Parole.

Once the g/c is approved you can leave with the I551 stamp.
