abolition of INS

The INS as we know it ceases to exist within the next 10 days or so. In it's place there will be a homeland security and the "bureau of citizenship and immigration". I guess people with pending applications will be falling under the scrutiny of this pretentious sounding "bureau". I see lot's of people getting paranoid and scared about the effects these changes will have on cases that are pending. I suppose we should not speculate and spread more paranoia. We should only post information that has some basis in facts and has some credibility.
I think reasonable speculation is also good for us. But baseless screaming of'we are screwed'wouldn't be helpful.

Reorganizations

I don't know about anyone else, but from my experience of organizational re-orgs, at the operational level I really don't think we will see many changes for a while. The same people who are doing the processing today will be doing it tomorrow. At a very high level the heads of these organizations now have new bosses. It will take a awful lot of meetings and working parties to come up with there new structure and then a fair while while it filters down to the coal face. My guess is in the short term at worst they will loose some processing time while employees attend information sessions.

I don't think it is going to happen soon

After reading few articles it looks like it will take atleast a year before INS can be abolished. They have to have equivalant department in new structure working before they can abolish the current INS/structure.

Read the store at:-
http://www.abcnews.go.com/sections/us/DailyNews/homefront.html

White House spokesman Fleischer said the department will come together piece by piece but will not be fully functional for at least a year, and perhaps two. "Just like any entity there are going to be growing pains ... and that must be anticipated in the creation of this department," he said.

What do you guys think?

detroitimmi - would you please

post some links which tells that it is going to happen in 10 days or so?

I just read on immiration-law.com that DHS will replace INS around March '03. Before that INS will still be INS--isn't that comforting to know!

Why are they not approving any cases

If that is going to happen around March 03. why we are not seeing any approvals.
Last approval I say was of AP 11/22/02.

Anyone know if INS is processing any cases or they are just reading news about the DHS.

They are not even bothered with reading news about DHS. Now they have a perfect excuse to not work.

You may think this restructuring thing is a pain for the INS. In fact they love this. Now they are ordered to drink more coffee (some people may prefer more sleep instead, I suppose) and work out a Thanksgiving plan.

Stay tuned. Christmas is not too far away.

We can also rest quietly until next year.

Happy Holiday!!!

Feel traumatized? Have more turkey. It heals. It is particularly good for the heart, according to my lawyer-turned-doctor.

Interestingly enough the posting rate here goes down with INS and rupnet. People usually start writing when they are depressed. At least thats what Shakespear did when his GC petition was taking too long, I heard.
