AB-1(a) approved! Questions re: SSN & entering ahead of actual move

Hi,

my EB-1(a) application was approved! From start to finish, the process took 7 months, ending at our interview in Montreal. I should mention that we paid the extra $1000 for premium processing, and paid for legal firm Zhang & Attorneys to assist. They are highly recommended!

Questions:

- I applied for a SSN along with the green card. I understand it will be mailed to me up to 6 weeks after I cross the border. Will there be a temporary number given to me, that I can use to start work? Or do I have to wait until the physical card comes in the mail to start working?

- At our interview, the interviewer indicated that the next time we go cross the border, it should be in the act of immigrating. In other words, I can't just go to the border now, get the green card & SSN process started, and then come back to Canada. However, he did say that if absolutely necessary, we could go to the border, and show proof that our move is happening (for instance the booking with the moving company), and they may approve the paperwork then.

Does anyone have any further insight on this? If there is really such a delay getting the SSN, then I am inclined to go to the border now, ahead of of actual move date of December 28, and get the ball rolling ASAP. Is there any reason I shouldn't? And any gotchas I should know about?

Thanks,
Graham.

EB-1(a) approved! Questions re: SSN & entering ahead of actual move

Arg, just realized I mistyped EB-1(a) in the thread topic. Fixed in this reply.

Is there a way to change the topic name? Or should I delete and repost? Or leave as is?

Thanks,
Graham.
