A trip home

today, one of my fellow country men shared with me the news about his trip back home. he had applied for asylum long time ago and had recently got the green card. this guy had had an adventure. He drove to canada from the state of washington then he took a flight from vancover to Rome and then from Rome to my country. he said that he drove 5 hours then flew for 18 hours! after he finished the trip and came back to canada, they only asked him for the green card and not a visa as some people in this forum suggested. he still needed his national passport to depart from canada. upon his arrival to canada, he went back to america using his green card. when i asked him why did he do that, he attributed his action to fear of flight cancelations and to the low price of the airplane ticket from canada. he was not worried at all about revoking his green card since he was assured by his lawyer that there is no problem of doing that. I do not know what to make of his story but I have a strong evidence that he went back home since he showed me some recent pictures he took next to some historic sites in my home country. just wanted to share his story.

well its no big deal..i mean when i came back on dec 30th, the u.s officer didnt even ask where i went or looked at any stamps on my RTD..only thing he wanted to make sure was my rtd was valid and thats it...

However you never know which JERK services you..i had a very nice officer who said that "dont let them take ur I-94 next time u leave"..he said if i come through again with an I-94, they wont send me to the secondary inspection and would stamp the passport just like a u.s passport...

I agree with JackIsBack because you don't know what kind of immigration officer will process you.

The officer that processed me last night was just asked me two questions:
Citizenship : After my response he said show me your documents
I tried to hand him my white card and he said ..Just SHOW it to me from the CAR and after one second he motioned me to move ...and that was it .....but again as mentioned in this forum every experience can be different .....

Regards,

I (asylee) was coming back from the border country of my own (never went to my country), IO were such a jerks asking many time did I ever go to my own country and am I sure I did not (I had RTD and temporary evidance of my approved green card). I had to wait long line. as always. in another room tp be questioned.
I am so sick of all this stuff already.
I would like to have at least my national passport and travel on it now (I have phisical green card already finally), but I afraid to apply for the national passport in order of any further problems during applying for citizenship.
My RTD is going to be not valid for the summer, and they issue new ones for so long now... I am mad about it already becouse I feel I will not be able to see my children in some border or other country, as I did this year (first time in 7 years), because of all this RTD, etc. stories...
sorry for my complains, but I was hoping to be free after getting GC, and now - it's like forget about!..

Traveling on RTD

Hi there,

I have a question for those who travelled on RTD. Do you need to take your national passport with you - do they ask for it when you come back? I have heard that an RTD is enough.

Thanks in advance,
L.

No you do not need your national passport to come back to america if you have your own RTD. However, if you are planning to visit your country, you do not want to show them your RTD ofcourse but instead they will need to see your national passport. Good luck

BE CAREFULL, IT IS ILLEGAL TO TRAVEL WITH TWO DIFFERENT PASSPORTS. Many people do it, but it is illegal. Just a warning.
