A SADDEST DAY AFTER POST INDEPENDANCE OF INDIA. India will be ruled by a Foreigner, a westerner again.. it is happening again after 5 decades of Independence.!

More than a billion of people of India cannot find a Leader for themselves to lead the country in prime ministerial position. Largest party of India and all the immature opportunistic politicians of non-NDA parties are almost willing to support SONIA.

It frustrates me.. it burns my heart.. is this what India all about.. where are those worlds top genius people from India making waves in Science Technology across the Globe. Think about all the sacrifices of lacks of people who died for Independent India and think of Ghandi, Nethaji and Bhagath Singh .. can their souls rest in peace with this unfortunate reality that is happening in India.

It is highly unfortunate that the NDA could not convince the common man of India that they are making difference and can make much more if chosen again. Now Congress is here.. . people hated congress not just because of its name but its performance, post Independence time they never showed self respecting confident and able leadership to this country. All happened was politics of oppertunitism.

Sonia - a leader by opportunity, out of leadership vocume in Congress and out inefficient foolish leadership of its leaders. She has NO moral, ethical, emotional qualification to be a leader for India. She has no experience and not a lady like Mother Theresa who knows pain and problems of poor people. She enjoyed life of luxury and opportunistic political life. So many big leaders in Congress.. I just wonder are they real INDIANS? any one else may be OK for this country.. may be Manmohan Singh or PV again or even Rahul (half Indian by blood/ not sure how much Indian by nature)

IGNORANCE was never a bliss for India.. history proved it many times. so Wake UP! add your own worlds to this mail and send it to as many people as you can. also email to organizations and news, media where ever possible.. express your self. Dont ignore .. it is your Mother INDIA.!

Be Realistic ! Be Confident !

Hope most of the people in India feels the same way as you feel. But don't forget, the same people voted to elect their leaders. So we respect their rights first. Now you're going back to the same people and asking like " Why did you vote to these immature opportunistic politicians ?" Did you raise your voice before or during the election ? Did you vote first of all ? How many Engineerrs/Doctors/Software Professionals...etc voted.....? How many Indians raised their voices or voted ? You need to understand the truth, there are still MORE ignorant people in India, even with good Education. I don't want to show any sympathy, but trying to be a realistic person.

I am very proud of my India and my people, admired about the performance (especially in the past decade) and very confident that India will perform better and prosper.

I am not supporting Sonia. I am against a foriegn born to be Indias PM. India has copied the pub culture from US..., but did not copy few lines from US constitution, to become a PM or a President of India, one should be a second generation Indian and both his/her parents and thier parenst should be citizens of India.

3 centuries ago, Indians fought amoung themselves and lost to foriegn business/invaders/power. If one feels proud that India earned its independence 50 years ago, India is ready to lose it again in a similar manner.

Common man in India is very busy fighting the inflation and making money..., they do not have time to think about their future or their childrens future..., how does one expect they would invest time in molding Indias future. Many politicians are working hard to find scapegoats..., all their plan to put Sonia in the highest office is only to make her a scapegoat. Even though it is crystal clear to her, she wants power and money and since India is not her country..., even if Indians go to hell why would she bother.

A married man at Hiriyur in Davangere district committed suicide on Saturday after it became known that Congress president Sonia Gandhi would become the next prime minister.

Mahesh Prabhu (30) who was a resident of Jagjeevan Ram Layout consumed a pesticide. He was immediately admitted to hospital, but that did not help. In his suicide note he is reported to have said that it was sad that the country could not find one eligible person among one billion Indians, and “we will again be ruled by a foreigner”.

Mahesh’s friends said he had been the secretary of State unit of the ABVP.

Greatly influenced by the former Chief Election Commissioner, he had started a T N Seshan fan club of which he himself was the president.

He had completed his MA and was interested in social service. He was also a Rotarian.
 
This is a very narrowminded outlook. LK advani was born in pakistan but that does not make him ineligible for the top post in indian politics. Pkistan president Musharraf was born in New Delhi and that does not make him an Indian. Sonia is as eligible and as qualified to hold the top post in India as anyone else. The public of India has accepted her as a leader and voted for HER.
 
The people have chosen the Congress party to rule the country knowing very well of the nationality of Sonia Gandhi. It was a known fact that when Congress wins Sonia is going to be the PM. So, I think we should respect the rights of a normal India and see how it works. Never forget if things dont go right people will still have power to clear the mess.

The bigger question is why was she the Congress President from the last few years? This is the question that every Indian should be asking.
Was India being loyal to Gandhi Clan?
Why was Sonia in Congress party to begin with? Was it to pave way for her kids?
Or there's tons of money in offshore accounts that Sonia has access too. Without bringing Sonia to the power Congress party might not have gotten the money from those accounts.

Some facts for people who seem to think Sonia is the "chosen one" :
Only 15% of the electorate voted for Congress (that too not for Sonia) but the present scenario is such that she has an opportunity to be PM.
If she was so confident of her popularity with the people of India why did she not reveal her intentions during the election campaign, of becoming PM if Cong. party made it to the government?
She is not Indian, even if she screams from the rooftops, wearing a saree and imitating her mother-in-law (including the band of grey hair! how low can you get for grabbing power?!) does not make her one!
Someone mentioned her sacrifices on this forum, and what sacrifice is that? She lost her husband? well, that is a risk she took when she married into the most powerful and controversial family in India! As part of that deal she has also been transported into the lap of luxury from her humble beginnings, lets not forget! Where is the record of her having done anything for the poor who she claims to be the saviour of? Time will tell, but by then coffers will be empty of the money that the last few years of economic boom had made possible.
My opinion is that she is a mere place-holder for one of her children, most probably Priyanka because Rhul appears to be too sincere to make a good Congress leader!

Mixed Emotions....

I have mixed feelings against this issue.

How can a country of 1 billion people, could not come up with one leader who is a natural born Indian. Well, look at the politicians especially the Congress leaders and their allies. India had enough of the likes of Arjun Singh, PV Narshima Rao, Sitaram Kesri, Yadavs, Sharad Pawar.....etc. They have dominated the Indian politic for over two decades and the only face they have shown is the face of corruption.

BJP in their five-year rule did fulfill the financial obligations of India. What they neglected were the social obligations, the basic necessities of the common Indians like water and electricity. The Gujarat massacre did not help their cause. IT and telecom are booming and if you are in that sector you will be flourishing. But the majority of the Indian youths are in other sectors and they are facing serious unemployment crisis. Agriculture, retailing, and manufacturing sectors are suffering like never before.

Today Indian youths population (25 -30) are the largest in the world and majority of them are not in IT and telecom. They do not have jobs; the education system (The IIM Fiasco) is becoming rigid every passing day; inflation is rising; the list keeps growing.
What Indians want is a change and they saw in Sonia a hope. After all she is an Indian citizen and a Gandhi.

Indians have spoken and I got to respect that.

Why no one questions LK Advani's Pakistani origin? After all he was born there.
It is ridiculous to identify someone by their place of birth in this fashion. Sonia should not be rejected just because of her birth. She is as Indian as anyone else, and more Indian that all of us living here comfortably in the US arguing about green cards and fingerprinting.
Sonia's party won this election solely on her individual charisma/perceived merit. She should be given a chance to prove that she is a good leader. After all, people like Charan Singh, Deve Gowda got a shot at the Prime ministership.

When was LK Advani a Pakistani? - that is a news to me.

Advani was born before Pakistan was born and it was known as India - get your facts straight.

She is not more Indian than me - I am not sure about you. Getting GC does not means I give up my citizenship! Maybe a greencard in USA is worth more for you than your Indian citizenship - you can crawl for it, but do not count me in that group.

What merit are you talking about? I would like to hear from you - if she has ever represented India anywhere in this world?

I am not entering here to say who to be India's PM,but just to put the matters staright,when Advani was born,there was only an Indian Subcontinent
and Pakistan had not shaped/born by the.Correct me if it is other way.
But when Sonia was born ,there is clearly India has born before.
that is the difference.

You are worthy of your name, but I never heard about nationality from you. Seems first two letters make your first and middle name and last 6 is your family name. Heard your community uses various methods for alms - you will make your family proud by using a new way.

You may be begging GC. We are earning GC.

For ex: When people were working hard to make money - your family was busy begging chawannis next to every temple/church/mosque/railway station... everywhere. Now someone in your family must have understod that only way to make money is by begging that is how your dirty blood is afflicated with same idea.

So a party led by a person of non-Indian origin gets around 27 % of the vote, wins 216 seats and all this becomes a 'national shame'.

The real shame is the continuing existence of the great Indian middle-class intellectual dishonesty and hypocrisy, still rooted in a peculiar colonial mentality. ("These uneducated natives dont even know whom they should vote for"). Ah, what a great 'brown-man's (?)' burden to carry!

How about the great and good lamenting the dearth of brown-skinned political leadership in India taking a flight to Mumbai and standing for any election in a dusty Indian village? I would be interested to know the vote count of these 'highly-educated NRI global citizens' who profess to have unbounded love for their home country.

( GC? Citizenship? Oh, dont bother, I'm not really interested in all that, you know... yeaaaaaaaah, riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight)

I never voted Congress, and would probably would not have in this election, had I had the chance, but that would not be because I do not respect the Indian constitution, its heroic effort democracy, and most importantly, the verdict of the Indian people, who have accepted an Italian who stuck on in the hurly-burly of Indian politics after her husbands assasination over a decade ago.
 
This is utterly ridiculous that some people in the forum (I am one of them and I am not ashamed of accepting it) used all the public faclities in India, came here, got a GC or aspiring to get one and lot of them would also go on to get a US citizenship, and claim loyalty only to the US (I understand that India allows dual citizenship now, that's a very recent thing and honestly doubt would make any difference to people's loyalty) and then talk about a foreign born person becoming a PM.

Let me tell you something - I have an 'Indian' co-woker that was born and raised in Kuwait all his life, came to India to 'buy' his engineering seat, worked for a couple years, came to the US, will get his GC shortly and is also going to marry an Indian American. How 'Indian' is he? Sonia is much more Indian than him and thousands like him. All those that are so against Sonia being a PM, can this guy be a PM?

Just because US has a 'stupid' law (yes stupid) that you can only become a president if you were born in the US, that does not mean India has to 'ape' it. My daughter was 1 year when we moved to the US. Assuming, she gets her GC and goes on to naturalize, when she is like 50 years, she has almost lived all her life in the US. Guess what, she still can't be a president. But most likely she will more or just as 'American' as anyone else.

It is so primitive in this day and age to think that only son (and daughter too) of the soil can lead a nation. What you need to lead a nation is calibre and good heart. I am not saying that Berlusconi (the Italian PM that owns over 50% of Italian media) should storm into Indian politics and with his money power and economice might become an Indian PM in a few years. Even if he tries, I don't think people will ever accept it.

Bottom-line:

Is Sonia qualified to be a PM? hell no
Will I vote for her to be the PM? hell no
Does it matter that she is of Italian origin? No
Is he eligible to be a PM? definitely yes
And should we all stop discussing this issue? yes
