AILA called HR 418, "A Sad Day for America"

http://www.aila.org/fileViewer.aspx?docID=17593

I didn't find any mention about the GOOD NEWS on elimination of the 10,000 cap which is very beneficial to current or future asylees. What were they thinking? :) The fact of the matter is--whether this Bill is approved or not--the asylum process would not be easy anymore (which makes sense after 9/11); but the adjustment to PR will be if the cap is eliminated.

I support HR 418. The benefit of this bill outweighs its risk .

well, I read all of it and it makes sense. The only thing in this bill that we like is elimination of the cap. But if we think this through, we would have to prove our status in order to get driver license  It would be hard for our family members to apply for asylum. If they get refused, they would be deported without judicial review and we could not do anything about it.

So in reality, the only good thing with this bill is elimination of this stupid numerical cap. Everything else is pretty scary. That means that your fate in reality depends on the immigration officer. Most of those officers don’t have any previous judicial training, I’m not even sure if some of them finished high school.

Don’t get me wrong guys, I do support this bill because it benefits most asylees, but in my case it just doesn’t make a difference. I’m scheduled to get my green card very soon and even if they pass this bill, I wasted 5 years of my life in waiting. I still have to wait 4 more years for citizenship and then I can apply for my wife. 9 years of stress and thinking if they would deport my wife or if I would be with her and our child tomorrow. Enough said …

Hopefully the congress will modify this law without affecting part of the bill that will affect us …

Yup ,it sucks ,this mean that I and many like me can be deported even after 17 years , there are peopell that are subjects of deportation even after 44 y's .
You guys that are waiting for GC, think before you want to go back visiting to home country .

I think you people are taking it wrong. This bill wont hurt any asylum seekers. See right now its already hard for asylum seekers..Thanks to Bill Clintons 1996 Law...its hard to prove asylum cases these days. I don't know why ailf is against it...Just because it will allow a terrorist to be deported without due hearing?...Isn't that already in the patriot act? What in this bill is bad for any immigrant..can somoene tell me?

Undocumented immigrants to show proof of status to get a license..Whats wrong with that?...Its already immplemented in VA where I got my license..and only 10 other states in the U.s don't ask for that...What's wrong with that?...I feel for the undocumented ppl but lots of us even though we are asylees and everyone thinks have filed a fake asylum case..lot of us went through the scrunity of asylum and the label "scarlet Letter" of beign an Asylee...We took the risk to jeopardize our status here in the u.s..the undocumented pppl should also at least try something??...

In status just also includes ASylum approval and ASYLUM application lodged with the BCIS....Lot of ppl say oh my god this law won't allow undocumented to travel around..! Hmm how many undocumented immigrants who have licenses are willing to take risk and travel? YOu will be surprised that most are so scared of their status to be revealed even if they had licenses that they dont even set foot in the airport.

It says that this bill will not allow terrorists to travel in u.s airports. I just cme back from chicago..the guy in behind me was from Saudi Arabia..he had a Saudi passport..Not to single out the citizen of that country but when she asked for the ID..he showed his passport...This 19 year old lady checking the passport didn't flip or ask to see if he had a visa..So tellm e how this will evade terrorists..I am confused! Anyone with ANY GOVERNMENT ISSUED ID can travel U.S airports not just U.S issued...I don't see anywhere in the bill where it says that U.S Airports will only accept passports with visas..Do i?..

These senators don't travel enough or don't travel like we do to see whats there..The system is already messed up...all the laws that in the bill..they are already implemented if SOMOENE Looked closer.

So are you trying to tell me that If somoene is a terrorist RIGHT now and they know about it..he is given a fair due hearing???? they ship him back to Egypt for worst cases and then torture him..

I am just confused to ppl going "hoo-ha" over this bill..most of the items in this bill are already IN THE LAW..if you look closer..! Does this bill say that any cop in the street has the right to detain someone who is undocumented?..well guess what thats already done..they scan your name against lots of databases when they stop you to pull you over..

mY question..Why is everyone scared about this bill? I read it..i didn't see anything that would hurt an immigrant..EVEN an ASylee or ASylum Seeker. They already detain asylum seekers at the airport for as long as they think you are not a terrorist and if they really think you are really an asylum seeker..What will this bill change???

nofreedom, why will your wife be deported if you became a citizen and applied for her?..I dont get what you mean?...She wont apply for asylum!!!

...and..A real overhaul of the immigrantion system would be to allow U.s Green card holders SPOUSES to come to this country and not wait 4-5 years...Whats fair in that law to make 2 ppl apart from each other when one is a PR of this country and paying taxes....! An H-1 can bring his/her wife in 3 months while a PR who will become a CITIZEN and who will eventually pump 30-40 years of taxes into the U.S Government is given less rights than a H1 worker?

What makes sense in that?? Asylee CAP was implemented to disuade ppl from this country to apply for asylums..Well 1996 Law made it tougher for anyone to really get asylum without going through a judge basically!...It should have been removed in the 1996 law implemented by the stupid clinton..and i am a democrat if i could vote!

All I can say is If asylee cap is lifted..even though I expect to get my GC by next year anyway..I will be a republican for life! You have to given George Bush credit for pointing out asylee cap!....That man is human in every sense....Wish the senators would let him do his job..If he is allowed, he would fix immigration..

Because if you really look at bush..he is politcally dumb like most of us...If u tell him a PR can't bring his wife to this country and has to wait 3-4 years..he would definetly say What makes sense in tht??

Bush does not waver and fudge. He is a decisive leader. When he decides to do something, he throws his heart into it. We have seen this in matters large and small.

And we are lucky in having him in office at this challenging time.
