A Question on Tax Transcript

I received a tax transcript from IRS, and I noticed something I am not sure:

In year 2001 tax return, I needed to pay more tax ($3000) to IRS, so I attached a check when I sent form 1040 to IRS, and based on my bank statement the check was cleared. Everything is correct.

However the tax transcript I got from IRS doesn’t show anything that I have paid that $3000. Instead, in the last page (or the seconed last page) it says “line 70, the amount you owe: $3000”. It looks like I still owe IRS money?

Does tax transcript only show the fact I filled in the 1040 form? Or should tax transcript show the final balance after I paid the $3000 to IRS? If I present this tax transcript to a consular officer, will that cause any confusion? What do I need to do to make it clear that I don’t owe IRS any money?

I think the transcript is only a compact version of your filed 1040. If you are concerned about it, take a copy of your bank statement that shows that the IRS collected the money.

Thanks again, Moulin Rouge!

You are absolutely right. I actually called IRS before I saw your reply, and they told me the tax transcript is just what I put in the 1040 form. They said their system shows I don't owe IRS any money, and they suggested me to bring a stub of the check or bank statement to prove I've paid the money.
