a question about NIW and OPT

hello guys,
I have a q about if I could use OPT after my NIW 140 is approved. I heard that it is illegal to use OPT at the same time of 485 pending. Is this true?

The OPT and the 485 are show contradictory intentions.

My wife was a student and had her OPT at the time our initial EADs came through. Our lawyers adviced her to cancel her OPT and resubmit the EAD as the proof of immigration validity.

As long as you don't have an EAD you should be safe using your OPT but the minute you get your EAD you should cancel your OPT

thanks for your information. My understanding is OPT is safer than EAD, just in case 485 is unfortunately rejected. Could you explain why your wife chose to use EAD but not OPT?

she picked a different employer whereas the OPT was tied to her university and the postdoc that she was doing there.. She wanted the flexibility to look elsewhere too, which the OPT does not allow her..
