a question about medical exam

One of my friend asked me to post a question here.

He is waiting for filing I485, but his wife is pregnancy. If the priority date becomes available for him. Does he need to wait for his new child born? Because his wife may not be appropriate for medical exam (such as X-ray). Or they can file I485 together even his wife has no medical exam?

Thanks.

My wife and I was in the same situation 4 months ago. Here is what we did and this worked our perfectly. Do the medical now. If the child is born in the US, the child is automatically a US citizen, meaning medical not relevant for the child. The woman should still do the medical no, even though pregnant. The civil surgeon will waive x-ray and TB test as they are NOT apropriate for a pregnant woman. The wife may or may not get an RFE later to make up the x-ray and TB test. So, both of them should do medical now and file with I-485. Just make sure they tell the civil surgeon that she is pregnant. Then it's up to the USCIS to issue an RFE.
