Hi

For a derivative asylee, how to answer "Nonimmigrant Visa Number" and "In what status did you last enter?"

Thank yoU!

How did the derivative Asylee enterd the U.S.A, seaport, airport, or crossed border from Canada or Mexico?

Did he or she had a Visa ? if so you put that number and type of Visa.

If the applicant did not entered the U.S.A with proper documents/no documents and was not inspected by a U.S customs and Immigration agent at the point of entry, you will use "EWI" i.e Entered without inspection.

Hope the above answers your question. Make sure to contact a paralegal or Immigration Attorney, I am neither of them, just a forum member.

They issued B2 Visa, which is for vistors. But the asylum status is granted upon arriving at the airport.

I have not seen the most recent I-485, you have to put the B2 Visa number.

I just went through my old I-485, in part 3. Processing information, it asks you the following: in what status did you enter? (Visitor, Student, exchange, alien, crewman. temporary worker, without inspection, etc.) you will put down Visitor, since B1-B2 are issued to visitors.

Then put down the Visa Number, Consulate where it was issued and the date Visa was issued. Let me know if the above was of any help.

Thank you! I am not sure if I should put "Vistors" or "Derivative Asylee" there. Seems like both are acceptable.

But the way, where is the Visa Number?

I'd have to look at my friend's Niece's Visa again to tell you where is the Visa number.

I'd also download the most recent I-485, just to make sure we are on the right page. Be patient, it will work out alright.

Your relative entered as a visitor, who was granted derivative asylum. The answer is VISTOR not Asylee.

Wy007, my friend left town this morning with his family. I'll look for my wife's old pasport, she arrived with an F1 visa long time ago. Hopefuly it will give us some clue.

I downloaded latest I-485 pakage, you should put what I stated erlier in Part 3. Processing information.

Wy,

I just asked wife about her old Pasport, unfortunately she surrendered it when she got married. We are back to where we begin.

If you are still not able to locate visa number, wait till my friend gets back in town in couple of weeks. I'll be glad to walk you through I-485. It is not as complicated as you might think.

Please, let me know if you would like me touch this subject again.

Regards,
MK

I was just told by someone on this forum that the red number is the visa number.

Thank you very much! You are very helpful!
