A mistake on I-130? Serious problem?

Hello!

My wife (USC) and I (H1B) just applied for my AOS (please see details in my sig).

I just realized that we probably made a mistake on the form I-130. Since we were mailing the whole application to the Chicago lockbox, we put Chicago, IL, in question 22 ("Your relative is in the United States and will apply for adjustment of status to that of a lawful permanent resident at the USCIS office in:"). The problem is that we actually live in... Atlanta, GA.

Is this indeed a problem and how serious, if so? How can we fix that? We haven't received any confirmation/receipt letters yet. As much as I love Chicago, I just want to avoid having to travel for my FP and our interview there.

Any input will be greatly appreciated!

Nothing you can do, except to relax...

HI:

The world isn't ending with this innocous and fixable error.
There is nothing that you can do right now. Just wait for the Service Center to issue your NOA for all the forms. Once they are issued, you can write a letter to the NBC in St. Louis and make a request to change or correct this error because it is possible they can seek to have your case adjudicated in Chicago, IL and you have to drive from the GA to IL...

So...just relax and nothing is lost, they will issue you receipts and you can send them a copy of the NOA for I-130 and ask for the correction on the I-130.

Enjoy...

Don't worry about it, I made a similar error on one of my forms and the IO just corrected it in the interview. No biggie.

Hello Al Southner and dr_lha!

Thank you for such quick replies! :)

But, was your interview where you actually wanted it to be, or somewhere else? ;)

I'm just afraid that they will really want us to go to Chicago to do the Bio/FP and the interview. Is that possible?

Yeah, the only side effect was that I had to drive 1000 miles to Lee's Summit for my Biometrics and Interview. ;)

Only kidding! Of course they work it out for themselves. They base where you do biometrics and interview on your mailing address, not on that part of the form, which is just there to confuse you in this modern age of filing through the lockbox. I'm sure people put Chicago all the time.

Thank you for your reply, dr_lha! I feel a little better now. I was so upset with myself last night. I tend to be really careful about things like that and spent hours filling out those forms, and still made such a stupid mistake. But then again, this question is a little confusing. I wonder how many people do put Chicago, IL, there...

Man, I wish I'd found this message board sooner! Ironically, I discovered it on the day I mailed my application; right after I came back from the post office.

You do know that this thread is 3 years old? You didn't make any mistake, the I-485 is supposed to be filed in Chicago, and will be adjudicated in Fairfax, VA which is your District Office. Did you read the filing instructions?

thanks for the reply

I know this is a kind old and and thanks for keeping the thread alive,, but i made the exact same mistake ..
i.e after reading the instruction,

"Your relative is in the United States and will apply for adjustment of status to that of a lawful permanent resident at the USCIS office in:"
then I looked up in USCIS and it says resident of Virginia send the I-485 to Chicago lockbox so my answer was Chicago, IL
:( ..

my wife is a GC holder and not a USC, I can only file I-130 for now... just didn't want to travel to IL--

So do u think I can rectify it by calling them, or attaching a request letter when I have to reply to NOA, we didn't get the I-130 receipt notice yet.........
