A married woman's previous name

N-400 Part 1 (C) requires applicant's other names.

A woman almost always changes at least her surname upon marriage. Therefore, a married woman has at least one entry.

Does anyone have a comment on the consequence of omitting to mention the other name on N-400, especially with reference to 'name check'?

My wife has lapsed and left Part 1 (C) blank.

You must report previous names and specially if she had entered the USA with diffrent name. make a correction at the time of interview.

This an easily be rectified at the time of interview. Just tell the interviewer, that the entry was left blank due to an oversight.
I don't see any problem with this issue.

If the entry has been left blank due to oversight and filled in at the interview, would not the new names be subject to 'name check' procedure?

That is my concern. It may delay the naturalization process.

It may or may not delay the process. But, oversight is one thing, but, one should not lie under oath. But, citizenship can be revoked if obtained with false information at ANY time. It is just my opinion.

I think you must report your wife's previous name even if it delays the naturlization process. Better safe than sorry. Once you report the previous name they will definitly do the name check again. There is a possibility that they may do this process in the office at the time of interview.
Anyway my sugesstion is that you MUST correct the N-400 at the time of interview even if it DELAYS the process. Its your choice.

Thanks hm11.

I agree we should offer to correct the omission. We have our interviews on Monday. Let us see how we fare!
