hi! i leave in italy, and my mother leave in u.s.a. she was married with an american, but he is dead. now i ask you, when can she become american citizenship,if he was dead after only three years of marriage?she was having her permanent green card, before his dead.my mom said that she have to wait much more now that he is dead.thank you!

Your mom is right. If she has green card, she will have to wait 4yrs and 9 months to be eligible for citizenhsip.

Since her husband died, she is not eligible to be naturalized on the basis of her marriage (3yrs instead of 5 yrs)

P.S.: I'm not a lawyer. I'm not an expert. I'm just an ordinary guy. You are soley responsible for your actions.

The time for citizenship is counted since she was approved permanent residency (green card). It has nothing to do with her husband's death.

Please note that this is not the date when she "physically" recieved her green card, but rather when she was granted her permanent residency status.

FYI....the exact date can be found on the cover side of the green card ("Resident Since").

When was your mother granted permanent residency? If your mother was granted permanent residency 3 years ago then she would have to wait 1 year and 9 months. If it was granted two years ago, she has to wait 2 years and 9 months. If it was a year ago, then she has to wait 3 and 9 months before she can file for Citizenship.

Good luck,

Newly
