A letter indicating forcible ousting of a consultant ...

One of my friend recently joined a company based out in Connecticut. He was there only for four days and then the recruiter's partner firm called him and told that he need not come from next day and he is sending a replacement to the client.

There are no reasons mentioned and now he is in a fix. Is there a way we can ask either the client or the organization (recruiter) or recruiter's partner firm to give him a letter in writing citing the reasons for forcibly ousting him. The latter two are not responding. Is it ok to reach the first party directly? Or is there a legal redressal for the this situation?
