A friend needs help

I have a friend who arrived in the US with a student visa.
And he wants to apply for asylum b/c in his country he has a lot of poltical problems and his goverment jailed university students before he run away.
How is the system works for him b/c of all this student tracking systems in place these days. Could you please any ideas ,or if you were in the same situation.

When did he arrive here? What kind of persecution would he face if he returns home? What has he done that the government back in the home country wants to persecute him?

If he's simply after the Green card you might wanna give him this link instead. It's less painful than PA.

He is a real protection seeker

He is a geniune asylum seeker,if he returns home he will be jailed for his past activity in the university (He was one of the student leaders who called for freedom in the country.The country is known for the oppresion of freedom and free speech by the state department of the US.

If someone genuinely needs protection and believes that s/he meets the US refugee definition, s/he is strongly encouraged to apply for asylum. It is a very nice benefit as the US Government generally bends over backward to help refugees.

The new student tracking system has nothing to do with asylum eligibility.
