8th year H1B visa and wifes H4 visa

Some concern here.I just found out that my H1B visa extension and my wifes h4b visa extension has been denied.

Here is what INS sent.

My H1B visa has been approved, but it has been sent to the consulate in Islamabad. Apparantlly extension has been denied. In order to get it extended I have to leave the country and goto a consulate out of the country. My wifes petition, the letter said that the case has been denied becuase of Me having a criminal record, which make me inadmissable in the US.

Last year I was able to extend the visas without any issues, but this year they are rejcted. I guess mine is approved but not extended. The only criminal record I have a is DWI which I got in 2000. INS has approved 3 visa extensions since then. Last I heard DWI does not make me inadmissable in this country. Lawyer is waiting to get the letter from INS which states what crime I have committed that makes me inadmissable. Has anyones visa has been approved but had to leave the country to get the extension approved. Pleast get back as I am very worried.

I am not sure what I might have done that made me inadmissble. I am hoping this is big misunderstanding.

Even If I met an accident where it was my fault will this effect.
