7th year H1B Extension

My apologies if this is the wrong forum.

My H1B expires in Oct’2005. When is the right time to file for a 7th year extension? How many days does it take for INS to approve an H1B extension?

Any help will be appreciated.

Now-a-Days Texas Service Center is making Faster Approvals, For recently filed cases it is taking 6-8 weeks for Approval. Mine got approved within 8 weeks.

Hypothetically, if I get my H1B extented before Oct'05 and IF my 140 gets rejected (god forbid!), will my extension still hold good? Would I be able to work until Oct'06?
