7th year extension - info needed please!

Hi Guys,

My friend has about 1 1/2 yrs left on his H1B(end of 2005). He is going to file LC next month. Supposing the LC gets approved middle of next year (and he files I-140 & I-485), can he still get 7th year extension later next year (after the approval of LC) based on the fact that LC was filed more than 1 yr ago.

Basically, he wants to be on H1 even after the approval of LC.

What other legal ways are availabe for him to be in U.S. after the approval of LC and completion of 6 yrs?

One can get H1 extension based on pending 485 too. Also there is no restriction on when 485 has been filed (unlike LC where you have to wait 365 days to be eligible for H1 extension).

I am not too sure of what happens when only 140 (and no 485) has been filed - I think you have to wait for 365 days to be eligible - but I dont have a correct reading of that piece of law.
