6th year extension & lay off..urgent help !

Hello

This is my 6th year with I 140 approved. I planned to ask my employer for an extension 6 months before my expiration but was handed with lay off letter. I will be layed off at the end of this month. I have only 6 months more left for my current visa to expire (Aug 2009)
1) If i transfer to another company, Do i have only 6 months of valid H1b visa?
Can i use my LC/I140 approved to file for an H1 B extension from my current employer?
2) Do i have leave the country if my current employer refuse to give the approved I 140 documents?

What options do i have?

Change of Employer Petition

You should be able to file an H-B change of employer petition. If your I-485 has been pending for six months, you can typically change H-1B employers and not lose all the time you have put into your permanent residency petition as well.

As the previous poster said, if you are able to find another employer you should be able to buy some time that you lost and hopefully they will sponsor you quickly for a green card.
