6 years with L1+ H1 and requiring extension

Hi all,

This question may be a very familiar one to many. But I am getting different opinions from different people even from few attorneys.

I came to US through Company A in Mar 2005 through L1 Visa and stayed with that company till Jan 2008.

Meanwhile I got my H1B approved through Company B in October 2007 and started working through my H1B from Feb 2008.

I never travelled to India in the last 5 years starting from 2005.

My I-94 is expiring this september. Now my company B is filing the extension and they say that my visa will get extended by 3 years as I have spent only around 3 years with my H1 and still 3 more years is left out.

In simple terms:

Entry into US: 2-Mar-2005
Type of visa at Entry: L1

H1 approved: 2007
H1 valid till: 19-Sep-2010
H1 work start date: 28-Jan-2008

2005-2010 : No travel to India

I heard about the law that one cannot stay beyond 6 years (L1+H1) if the GC is not filed.

So if I go for extension now, will my I-94 get extended for another 3 years(atleast 1 year which is common these day) or just the 6 months which is pending in the total 6 years period.

Please let me know.
