I would like to share my interview experience with everyone.

We arrived 10 minutes before time. We had to go through the security gate. My wife went through ok, except they asked her to open her bag which had our paperwork, picture album and my wives potato chips and bottled water. They told my wife she could not take the food in My wife asked can they keep it till we come out (She loves her potato chips :p ) however, each time I tried the buzzer kept going off. I had to go through 4 times. I had to take off my watch, my belt, (I already placed my cell phone, keys on the table) I pulled up my pants) Finally, I was ok.
Amazing when we first walked in we saw another couple with a baby at the inner desk and a stern-looking lady standing on the other side. SHE WAS OUR INTERVIEW OFFICER!!! She took us to her office. She had the folder with our paperwork on her desk. She asked us both for our ID's. Ishowed her where they misspelled my name(again) on the Interview letter. She shook her head and then said she would use the spelling in front of her. Then she browsed through the paperwork. My wife said she flipped to the Affidavit of Support several times.(She could see the papers from where she was sitting) Then the IO asked us for the joint documents. We had lease agreement, bank statements and 2 bills. She noticed lease was just renewed, so my wife showed her her original lease(showing that she had lived there 2 years prior), also explaining why I wasn't added on when we first married. (my wife pointing out from the old lease the renewal times: I was explaining that the landlord okayed my moving in but did not rewrite old lease till old lease was to be renewed). Then she asked me the questions on the sheet. I answered the questions on the sheet in which I answered "NO" to all of them. She asked was I employed. I just starting working this week and had the employment letter (Although we had a sponsor). She then asked us who was _ _ _ _, I told her he was our sponsor. Then she asked wife, what were her childrens name and whether she was married before.(She wrote the childrens name on the paperwork. We didn't add them because they are adults not in the home, except the youngest one) My wife was a little nervous trying to give her the copies of all the information. I had to remind her, that everything was already in the paperwork. The IO asked for my EAD & pasport. She took the EAD and then she took out her RED stamp and stamped my passport and said I could travel using that while I wait for my Green Card. She explained the removal of condition process, had us sign the paper and then she escorted us out of the office. As we were walking down the hall, my wife whispered to me that she didn't even look at our pictures. I shook her hand and she smiled. My wife shook her hand and we then left. My wife went searching for her chips. She didn't find them

the interview went smooth. The IO was small, but she didn't crack a smile until the end when we shook her hand. We were well prepared with original and copies of everything! But we also had sent every document they required. Getting all your paperwork in order is a must and will make the interview a lot easier (for most of us). I left out feeling so relieved, but while we were on our way home, I started thinking about everyone on this post and wished that many would not have to go through so much. It is heartbreaking. Even while we were there we met 2 other families outside. Each had small children. One family stated this was their 3rd time coming. The other with 2 small children said it finally went good for them.

The feeling I have is unbelievable. I finally slept last night a restful sleep. The journey has been hard but I have been made stronger and wiser for it. So for all the others out there, I wish you nothing but success and happiness. Hang in there and give it your best.

I WANT TO THANK THIS FORUM FOR THEIR SUPPORT AND ADVICE. I COULD NOT HAVE ENDURED THIS EXCEPT FOR THE PEOPLE OF THIS FORUM BECOMING A PART OF MY LIFE. YOU HAVE GIVEN GOOD COUNSEL, CRITISM  AND ALSO PROVIDED A PLACE TO VENT IF NEEDED.

I will post when I receive the green card. This process took
163 days.

Approved for GC

Congratulation NeShawn!

I know exactly how you're feeling as I was approved myself just a few days ago. If anyone cares to know this is my short story:

As you can see from my timeline I filed in March. My DO is Hartford, CT.
My case hit a few hurdles on the way because we initially hired an attorney (back in August 2005) who never filed our case. After waiting for months and not hearing anything from USCIS we decided to take matters into our own hands. We found out in early February that the case was never filed to USCIS and confronted the attorney. His office went as far as forging a document to show us proof of filing, but that's a whole different story.
To cut it short - we filed on our own in March and in the meantime the attorney also filed a few days before we did (even after we told him we don't want his services any more!!).

Once we realized there were two cases pending with USCIS we wrote a letter of withdrawal for one of them. No response from USCIS though.
When 90 days have passed I scheduled an INFOPASS to get my iEAD.
During the INFOPASS I was asked why did I have two cases and two A#.
I explained the whole story and received my iEAD afterwards.
Few days later we received a correspondence from USCIS acknowledging our withdrawal of one case. Shortly after that I received my real EAD.
I though everything would go smoothly from then on but few months have passed and I have not heard anything from USCIS. It has been way over the 180 days when I scheduled another INFOPASS. That turned out to be a wast of time as we were told to sit down and wait patiently. They couldn't tell us what was holding up the case. On day 218 I received my interview letter. I was very excited that in less than two months this whole process could be over. Approximatelly 3 weeks later I received an email from USCIS online services stating that my interview has been cancelled and I will be notified if it gets rescheduled. I was devastated. I could not believe what I just saw.
I called the 1800 number immediately to find out the cause. I was told that my interview has been cancelled "due to unforseen circumstainces". That's all they could tell me. Right then and there I decided to do something about it. I contacted the local senator's office and I was told that they cannot help me until I received a document in the mail that proves cancellation.
So I waited and waited and such cancellation notice never arrived.

My husband and I decided to go to the interview as scheduled and pretend we never got any emails. I thought it's better to be safe than sorry and show up rather than not go and receive a letter saying our case was denied due to no show. Anyways, so we went as scheduled and we did have our interview!
The officer was very nice and polite. She asked why we had two cases in the beginning and after we explained the whole story it looked like she felt sorry for us. She said "I'm sorry you had to go through all this to get to this point but you did very well without the attorney!". So she stamped my passport at the end and told me the card should arrive in 2-3 weeks.
God was I relieved...

But it's not over yet. I won't be at ease until I receive that card. My mom got approved for green card (she got her passport stamped) in August and still hasn't received her notice or the card itself. So lesson learned - it ain't over till it's over!

Oh, and one more thing that we're waiting for: the court's decision in our grievance case. After the attorney messed up our case we filed a grievance to the state bar. The grievance panel found a probable cause for violation of the code of ethics and handed the case to the court for hearing. The hearing took place in October - still waiting for the decision. I hope he pays for his incompetence so a similar situation won't happen to another couple in the future.

Thank you all for your support, for answering my questions when I needed guidance. I wish everyone good luck and I will keep you posted on the arrival of my GC.

Venus

Congrats....

NeShawn,

We are going to stick a fork @ you.... you are done.... :) Congrats.

Venus,

You go.... I am glad Mr. shady Attorney is going to pay for his deeds. I resent those kinds of people, who mislead people and take for granted the importance of this immigration stuff to people. I hope they fine him, put a black marker in front of his office reading: Immigration attorney, at times I claim to be file cases, but never do, so act acccordingly and oh.... I am a fraud attorney"

Cheers to all you guys who were approved... :D
