Dear All,

1. Could you please throw some light on the consequences of changing/loosing the job, while going thru the last stage of GC, in cases of the 485 route versus CP route?

2. I heard that one can change jobs 6 months after applying for 485 - Is that true?

3. I also heard that it is advisable to stay with the company sponsoring your GC for 3-4 months after GC is accepted, in case any INS inquiries arise which require a fresh paystub - Is that true?

4. Is this because one receives the actual GC card several(??) months after getting the GC approved? How much time does it usually takes?

I would really appreciate your feedback.

Regards,

ab

avoid CP if you know

that you may be laid off soon. AOS gives you the freedom to find new employment within the same field as your present job if you get laid off 6 months after filing !485.

CP dosn't have this benefit.

Also, staying with the employer who sponsors your GC for a period of time has nothing to do with receiving plastic card, but to prove your intention to work for the company on a "permanent" basis, which is the foundation for employe-based GC.

hope this helps.
