485 filled & laid off, planning to move East coast...Ur Suggestions PLEASE.

Hi Guys,l
I filled my 485 During March 2002. Today I got laid off. Currently I am at St.Louis, Missouri. I tried my best to get a job, but …no hope. My thinking is to move to East coast ( say..Blatimore so that I can go to NY, NJ, or DC in few hours ) and find a job.

Will this work guys. Any suggestions….

Thanks in advance for the time.

Look you should consider two things before moving to east cost

Immediate GC or immediate Job

If you need immediate job, then you can move accross the US to look for the job. Texas has got lot of openings. NortEast NY, NJ and boston all filled with desi's and it's tough competition over there. DC, virginia, baltimore all federal projects and you need a security clearnce for that. Even citizenship won't work here. I have many friends who moved from west to east a year ago are now moving to the central and southern parts.

If you want an immediate GC, then don't change the place. this may delay your GC process, filing for address change and employer as well as attorney change.

Give more effort in your area for some more time

At the very least, stay within your INS Service Center's area of jurisdiction. (I am not sure who handles Missouri). That way even if you file AR-11 to show change of address, you will not need to suffer the transfer of your pending I485 applicaiton to another service center (which sometimes adds up to 2 years) and it may not necessarily trigger an RFE. (At most it will trigger a local transfer to your new home-town, and local transfers aren't all that bad; they sometimes speed up actual processing).

Thanks for the kind posting.

Hi maddi & wherezgc,
Actually I filled my 485 in VSC. Since my parent company is (was) at Pittsburg. So Baltimore is under VSC's area of jurisdiction.
WIll it pose any problems.

Atually I filled LC and I-140 from Pittsburg, while I was in Columbus, OH, Then I applied I-485 while I am at St.Louis MO. So for each and every stage I am at different place...

Thanks Maddi & wherezgc for your kind posting. I really appreciate your postings.

Thanks

Elias
