485 during Retrogression

On the USCIS website they said that :
Even if visa number is not availiable -- they will continue to work with the 485 application .... and once the visa number is availiable --- it was just one step process of attaching the visa number to the application and approving the same.

But some where in the forum -- a guy had done his check for his 485 status -
and he got this reply from Department Of Homeland Security

"I-485 application is pending the issuance of an immigrant visa number. Once visas become available, processing will resume on your application".

Does that mean -- they do just nothing if there are NO visa numbers ?
I mean even if the processing date has advanced much further than the RD ..... one will get RFE's once the visa number is availiable?

Loooks like even after the visa number are made availiable -- one needs to wait many months to get 485 approved !!!!

Ur thoughts on this guys...

No telling

eBhola,

Much like everything else in this process, there is no telling what is actually going on inside the Service Centers. Some centers may be processing 485 apps during retro while others may not. The problem is that there is no way to find out.

From personal experience with TSC, I can tell you that there has been some activity on my 485 during the retro phase but my case has a screwed up history and I had to get the Ombudsmans office involved. I did see 4-5 LUD changes in August this year and I am EB3 India. This was all after a wrong transfer and forcing an update on TSC regarding the location of my case.

So basically there is no good answer to your question. Anything may be happening.

I called the Cust Support the other day to check what was going on with my application (I am a EB3/I-485, Aug, 2003, PD:Feb 2003)
This particular Cust support lady was very understanding , she put me on hold and came back after a 2-3 minutes and told me that my application is "Sitting on the Shelf after priliminary processing and that they will be approved after the Visa numbers are available" , this was her literal statement.
