Approval letter received 06/07/2001. AVM not updated. Never talked to IIO.

Important question:
My lawyer has possession of all the papers sent to and received from INV.
In the future I want to use another lawyer.
Which papers, receipts, etc. will I need in the future?
Can my lawyer legally refuse to hand over my entire file?

All you need is file number, I hope. If you have receipt copies it is fine. If you note the receipt number too, that is fine. I do have the same questions, in fact, my lawyer, Angel paralegal !!, refused to disclose the Receipt number even. since i mind GC rather than these numbers, I left it as it is!

Hi,

First off...Congratulations on your approval!

I would ask the attorney for the following...

1) Original Approval notice of I-485 (INS will send you the
courtesy copy directly)...Attorney gets the original

2) Copies of Approval notices for I-140, Labor Certification and
any H1 approval notice(s) copies as well....

As a client, you are entitled to get all of the above...(even
if your attorney works for your company and not retained by
you)...if the Attorney is reluctant to part with the original
approval notice of I-485...tell him/her that you need it for
the passport stamping (in most cases, local INS offices will
accept the courtesy approval notice for stamping purposes)

It is better to have these documents...atleast copies of them...
I was quite naive about keeping copies of immigration docs when
I came here as a student...only when I started the GC process
I realised the importance of them...not that it would hamper
your chances of approval...but, it certainly will delay the
approval...please do keep copies of all your immigration
documents intact...

Hope this helps!
