I am currently working in USA on temporary visa and recently got my canadian GC. I need to return back to India to be with my aged parents, however I understand that one needs to live in Canada for 3 yrs out of 5 in order to file for citizenship, I can possiblly move there for 6 months or so this yr. before moving back to india, is there a way to fulfill the requirement without physically being present in canada or do they even track it?

Also does the 3 yr period means 36 months or few months every yr? What happens if I do not fulfill the requirement period, do I lose the PR or any chance of getting around it?

-- It is 3 out of 4 years - not 5.

-- There is no (legal) way out. You have to live in Canada physically.

Also does the 3 yr period means 36 months or few months every yr?

-- Total 36 months out of 48 months - (does not have to be consecutive)

What happens if I do not fulfill the requirement period,

-- You are not eligible for the citizenship then.

do I lose the PR

-- Yes, if you do not meet the PR requirement

any chance of getting around it?

-- No.
