Hello everybody, I am desperately looking for some guidance. Following is my status

3rd Nov 2005 - 12th Dec 2005 -> landed in canada. Took my PR and SIN card. I did not work during this period. Neither did I apply for the health card nor opened a bank account.
13th Dec 2005 - 12th Oct 2006 -> Worked in India
13th oct 2006 - Till date -> working in the US

I have never filed for taxes in Canada so far. I want to establish my "3 out of 5 years" physical stay in Canada to be eligible to apply for citizenship. Can I do the following.........

I enter Canada by road on 1st Jan 2007 (for example). Apply for health card, setup a residential address (my brother stays in Toronto), come back to US by land in 1 week's time and continue working in the US. Go back to Canada by road on 1st Jan 2008 (for example) and file for taxes in canada as well, will this 1 year add up towards my 3 years of physical stay requirement in canada.

If this will not work, can you please let me know what options I have.

This will NOT work. They require 3 out of 4 years of PHYSICAL PRESENCE in Canada (not just the ties, you have to live there).

The only option you have is to start living in Canada and accumulate 3 out of 4 years PHYSICAL PRESENCE.

As far as citizenship is concerned, I thought one has to stay for atleast 3 years before one can apply for citizenship.

I don't understand your statement 3 out of 4 years.

Can you please elaborate?
Is the 4 years from the day one gets the PR card?

So, for example in my case, I got the PR card in May 2005.
So in order to apply for citizenship, by what date should I start living in Canada?

Thanks in advance.

I found the answer to my previous question. It is the last four years from the day your application for citizenship is filed.
So, for example, if an application is filed in 2007. Then in the last 4 years, at least 1095 days have to be physically spent in canada.
