3 months vs. 6 months

has anyone lately entered the US on a B1/B2 visa or know someone that did and only get 3 months? before it use to be 6 months but now someone i know (who has visited multiple times) only recieved 3 months. was there news on the time frame you can stay now on B visas in the US? thanks in advance.
 
When you enter the US the officer at the POE (port of entry) can allow you to stay from xx days to 6 months, is their call. The maximum stay is govern by the date that they stamp or write in your I-94 card.
