3 months visa and I-94

Hi

My mother-in-law was issued a 3 months visitor visa dated 21 JUL to 20 OCT. She is planning to come to US only by October beginning. Would I-94 be issued for 6 months or only till the expiration of the visa(20th OCT).Has anyone had this situation before ?Please respond.

Same Suitation

We have same case, My Mother-in-law got 6 months visa, which expires on Jan 04 and my wife is due on Jan 04, we were thinking of extending the visa, but she has only 6 months valid. Can we do that? or I was thinking of calling her late, if they consider 6 months from US entry.

I-94 will be issued based on how long the visitor plans to stay, not exceeding 6 months. Visa expiration has nothing to do with I-94 date. You can enter US even on the day visa expires and still can get upto 6 months stay.
