The Naturalization Eligibility Requirements No. 3 says that “Have lived within the state, or USCIS district with jurisdiction over the applicant’s place of residence, for at least 3 months prior to the date of filing the application”. Does this 3 months have to be immediately preceding the date of the filing the application? For example, I can file application in March, but I’ve been out of the country for 4 months till now. Do I need to return to the US right now and live in the USCIS district with jurisdiction for 3 months till March? I’ve been lived in this district for more than 6 years. Thank you very much!

I think your stay outside USA is considered to be of temporary nature so that you rmaintain your residence in USA also in your state.
So it is OK for you to stay outside USA until March when you file N400. This assume you have residential ties like house, apartment etc
