3 Month requirement before applying

There is a condition in the N-400 eligibility worksheet that : "The person has to complete 3 months in the USCIS district in which he/she is applying".

What is the rule for travelling during that time?

Eg: My son has completed 4 months in NC. However, during the 4 months, he went abroad for 3 months. Does he qualify to apply for his Citizenship immediately from NC?

He has been living in US for 11 years earlier and qualifies for all other requirements.

Thank you for your feedback.

His trip abroad was TEMPORARY, right? Did he return to the same address upon his return? Did he maintain 'residence' in the US, while he was gone? If the answer is in the +ve to both q's, he has nothing to worry about. He can go ahead and file his N-400, rightaway.

Does he have apartment leases/home mortgage, postal address updated, utility/phone/cable bills, auto insurance, updated addresses with IRS/USCIS etc. to show that he has completed 4 months in NC?

If he does, in my opinion he should be OK in filing inspite of the trip abroad. I would suggest making sure that he has strong documentation to prove his NC residency before he applies though.

His trip abroad was temporary. He returned back to the same address, maintained his residence in the US. Some years ago we updated the address with USCIS with our present address.

All he has is his NC drivers liscence, bank statements, credit card bills, medical insurance, sports magazines etc.. at the NC address.

Would he require any other documents, something that I have missed out?

Thank you for all your replies.
