2nd interview request for I-485

I had filed for GC in Dec 2006 (130, 485, etc at Chicago Lockbox), following which I was interviewed in June 2007. At that time my I-130 was approved and I-485 was pending name check.

This week I received a letter from Newark DO requesting a 2nd interview for Adjustment of Status. They have asked me to come along with my USC spouse, bring my passport only (no other documents) and specifically mentioned my interview will be video recorded. It seems very strange.

Any idea why there would be a second interview?

This has been posted several times in the past month. The best theory is that they are going to approve you. No big interview or anything (since you already passed it). But they are going to video tape it, because you may be approved with a clause, that when the name check comes, if there is "something" that would make you ineligible for the GC, then this would revoked... and they have you on "tape" agreeing to this.

That is one of the theories that holds most weight. Let us know what happens.

Hi Prakash_78,

As PraetorianXI said, this has been posted several times in the last month. There is a separate thread "second interview for adjustment of status" where several people who had received this type of letter exchanged their experience.

Best of luck
