Sure - you can file any number.

You can file more than one 140 at the same time in the same center or other centers. But you can only be allowed to file one 485.

What my attorney said was that we could have multiple 140s pending, but there should be only one 485 with USCIS.

file one 140 with 485 option and another with CP. That is always teh best stretegy.

You lawyer is wrong. You can file any number of 485s. However on filing second 485 - you need to provide them with A# of the first application. YOU CANNOT HAVE MORE THAN ONE A# - NOT THAT YOU CANNOT FILE MULTIPLE 485s.

Search the portal you will find several people have done it in past. Also I remember in 485 complaint section somewhere Rajiv mentioned it too.

And what will_get_there has pointed is a very nice strategy - consider it if you have any options. Only difference will be that in this case(as by will_get_there) you will have to withdraw one application(whichever comes later) or else respond to RFE that you have already completed your AOS. In case of multiple 485 - USCIS itself will cancel it.
