2 FBI checks - Quick Question ??

Hello,

I guess, there are two FBI checks -

1) criminal background check using applicants' FP. Quickly done, I guess.
2) The FBI's "name check" which may take longer.

How can someone know the status of both? Does the interviewer during citizenship interview tell people about their status and what is pending (if it)?

Please advise.

your FP should be cleared prior the interview. the post in above contains a phone number you can call to check when FBI received your FP for n400 purpose, and when they returned back to USCIS.

During the interview, if nothing is pending, and if you pass the history and english test, you would be recommented for naturalization, otherwise, you would receive a notice saying the decision of your case could not be made at that moment. you can ask if name check / background check from FBI is pending.

also, don't forget USCIS would have their own background check as well.
