Fill out the customs form and immigration form, which are usually given to you by the flight attendants before you land. Go to the immigration line after you leave the airplane (just follow the crowd). When you reach the immigration counter, show your passport (turn to the page with the visa to make it quicker for them) and the immigration and customs forms. Don't show anything else unless asked. The immigration officer will ask you some questions, take your fingerprints, stamp your passport, stamp the customs form and give you back, and tear off the immigration form giving you with a stub known as the I-94. Keep the I-94, as you will need it for your GC process.

Then it will be time to claim your luggage at the carousel. When you see yours, take it to the customs line. When you reach the front of the line, hand the customs form to the officer and let them X-ray or open your luggage as requested. If you want to avoid complexities or possible fines, make sure you're not carrying any food that is not in a closed can or a factory-sealed package, and make sure you have less than $10,000 in cash. Then take your luggage and go to meet whoever will pick you up.

If you have to change flights within the US to reach your final destination, you will have to go through customs and immigration right after the flight that first lands in the US. Then you'll check in your luggage again for the next flight and you won't go through customs and immigration at your next destination.

Why wouldn't they check backgrounds? If you committed a crime outside the US, you may be a danger to the US. And even if you claim to have never been in the US, you could have been there and committed crimes.

They can ask you anything about your life history just to check that you are the same person who owns the passport and visa (somebody who stole or borrowed the passport might not know certain things about the true owner of the passport), and to get a sense of whether you might be a criminal or terrorist threat.

The fingerprints are recorded in the system and are checked against your future trips to make sure the prints match, in order to make sure somebody else will not use the same passport or visa or green card. But I don't think they do much of background checking with the prints at the airport, except maybe to distinguish between you and a known criminal with the same name.

Why are you so worried about background checks? Did you commit a crime?

No im a us citizen already i was born here just askin because i didnt see the piont in checking some one who just came to the country to that extent knowing that when you apply for any kind of residency they ask you to get a police record from the country in which your coming from. Yes i know they have to be extra careful with who they allow in our beautiful country but if a individual is 1st coming in you really dont have much to work with only as you said there name is on a terrorist list or they are a known criminal..... I am thinking about pursuing the career in immigration weather it may be even becoming a lawyer...
