Hi,
I will be joining my client shortly ie 180 days after ND. The client has said that they will not handle my Green Card case in other words they will not help in terms of money for legal issues related to Green Card. However they said that they will assist in information/letters etc.
I want to know how you have handled this… Who will be your lawyer once you change jobs?
Did you retain your old lawyer or you hired a new one or your new employer took care…
Please shed some light on this…
Thanks in advance.

Hey!

Guys,

You don\'t need lawyers. More likely you are safe. According to Sheela Murthy at www.murthy.com you are OK if you crossed 180 days since RD. If you need forms to file, just download them from INS website, read instructions and file. You might need lawyer if something happens. Otherwise, go and do it yourself

No lawyer needed at all

You most likely know your case more than a lawyer so may be taking a lawyer might hurt you. If your case is STANDARD, don\'t bring a lawyer. You can call the INS office to check if it is transferred as STANDARD like mine.

Later, if get in problems that require knowledge about rules, then a lawyer becomes important.

Cligsman --- So you are saying that even if a case is transferred to local INS for interview etc..

you don\'t need a lawyer unless its complicated... So what happens if there is an RFE... INS sends it to your lawyer rt. rather than you...
Please explain
thanks

No Title

You need to inform the INS that you will not be retaining your lawyer any longer. I beleive you can write a letter requesting to nullify the form G-28 Notice of Appearance (I think). Once you change the application to STANDARD, all correspondence will be mailed directly to the applicant. Hence, even RFE\'s will be received by you and it will be your responsibility to reply back to the INS. However, if the RFE is complicated, you could always retain a lawyers service immidiately and have them respond back. If your case is straight forward, generally RFE\'s might be for simple copies of pay stubs, marriage certificate etc. which I\'m sure you can reply easily.

V_a_rao, Do you know of anyone who has done this... Please help!!!!

about informing the INS of the change in the attorney. Also let me know if this will create suspicion abt a job change.

yes, i have!

i said that the guy who did my g-28 is no longer my atty, and send me all correspondence. then i waited for 10 days for ins to absorb that. after that i hired my own atty, told him to send new g-28.

reason i did not swap atty direct was bcoz i did not want my new atty to ever contact the old guy. who knows how much one can trust these guys?

call iio\'s at every stage and make sure they receive yr letter, and the new atty\'s g-28. do not contact yr old company lawyer even once. all they can do is create trouble.

incidentally, my 485 was approved w/o hassles.

Do you need to notify your old lawyer?

Do you need to notify your old lawyer that he should not represent you anymore?
If so, is there a form that should be sent to him?

nonu21 --- more questions for you..... Can you tell the INS to communicate directly with you or you

Please help!!! Did you have any RFEs in your case????

No RFE
